Elias Lopez Montero

Elias was born into a family with a winemaking tradition that goes back to 1788, so winemaking is in his blood. In his youth, he travelled far and wide to gain winemaking experience and it was at this stage in his life he decided he wanted to go back to Spain and be the winemaker for Bodegas Verum his family winery.

At first, he wanted to make wine in an international style but he realised after a while that translating what the vineyards in La Mancha had the offer was much more important. His evolution began and now they make low intervention, organic and environmentally friendly wines by using native drought-resistant varieties and recycling local amphorae amongst other methods.

Elias and his wines are now getting great reviews from the International Wine Press including Jancis Robinson, Tim Aitken and Luis Guttierrez.
