Fatmata Binta

Sierra Leone born, to first-generation Sierra Leonean Fulani of Guinean descent, Fatmata Binta is a modern-day nomadic chef connected to the Fulani culture, customs & cuisine of the biggest Nomadic group in West & Central Africa.

Her vision for gastronomy is an invitation for guests to step outside of their comfort zone & explore flavour & sustenance through the palettes of Fulani women. It focuses on celebrating the undervalued & underused ingredients in Africa. Chef Binta has travelled to many countries to explore diverse cooking techniques, ingredients & ways of life as well as collaborating with internationally renowned chefs.

Recipient of the 2022 Basque Nobel Culinary World Prize, she was designated Ambassador for Responsible Tourism at (UNWTO) United Nations World Tourism Organisation in 2023. In the January 2024 Taste Of Change Instagram series with visionary chefs & partners striving to reinforce Food Security through sustainable food practices, Chef Binta shared her unique Fonio Jollof recipe, featuring the indigenous grain that sustained her family during Sierra Leone’s civil war.
