John McKenna & Sally McKenna

Dr. John McKenna is the author of the annual The 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland, published by The Sunday Times, and writes The Irish Stew, a weekly food culture report on Substack, newsletter.guides.ie  John, whose most recent books are Ireland The Best, and Wild Atlantic Way: Where to Eat and Stay has won many awards for his work, including the André Simon Special Award and, most recently, the Outstanding Achievement Award, with his partner Sally McKenna, at the 2023 Irish Food Writing Awards. John was born in Belfast, studied in Dublin, and lives in West Cork.

Dr. Sally McKenna is a publisher, photographer, cookery editor, and the author of Extreme Greens, described by BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme as “a new bible for seaweed cookery.” From her office in West Cork Sally edits and photographs the The Irish Stew, a weekly cultural report on Ireland’s food culture which is published on Substack, and the annual The 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland. The Irish Stew is a Substack Bestseller, and was singled out as #1 in Global Travel by Substack in December 2023.
