AgriCulinary: From Dream to Project #fote2023
Chef, entrepreneur, lecturer, development manager, beekeeper & educational innovator are few of the words describing the work of Jarmo Heimala. At 17, Jarmo left Finland to study Culinary Arts in USA, leading his career path as chef, entrepreneur & eventually a culinary teacher. In 2006, Jarmo returned to Finland for his current job, lecturer & development manager at Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College in Helsinki. Jarmo graduated with a degree in Master of Food Culture & Communication from University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy (2011). After his Masters studies, he launched a new elective study module- Sustainable Gastronomy and other innovative educational projects, such as college beekeeping, collaboration with local co-operative farm & creation of Green City Farm for Perho CTB College. Jarmo leads AgriCulinary Erasmus+ project together with colleges from Denmark & Norway; the aim of the project is to create multi-skilled professionals in the culinary & horticultural sectors – to strengthen sustainable cooperation between them – creating new businesses ideas, skills & potentially new jobs & career opportunities.
